Emphasis

 

Emphasis as defined by Webster's dictionary is "special importance or attention given to something". There are many ways to show emphasis when it comes to art and design. By emphasising something you are telling the viewer what to focuse on. In all four of the images here it is easy to see that the emphasis is on the pup. (his full name is Alexander Max Lee Evans and yes this is a shamelesss plug for his facebook page!!!) With the right angle, lighting and photoshop filters and masks, you can put emphasis on just about any thing. Same goes for drawing and filming. With drawing it helps to do a rough sketch of how you want things to be and where you want the emphasis put (we will talk more about that later though).
